Ticket Prices & More
We only run around 5 minutes of ads and trailers before our feature films – so please plan accordingly.
We pride ourselves at the Somerville Theatre on our low ticket prices and concession prices that are less than the other theaters in the Boston area. Like many movie theaters, we run ads for a couple of minutes before previews, but unlike our competitors, we use the income from these ads to keep our tickets 20% cheaper than the chain theaters in the area.
Our theatre is also home to the Museum of Bad Art! Located in the basement opposite the bathrooms, the MOBA is free with your paid admission to the movies or a live show. Browse through works of wonderfully bad art before or after the show!
For our regularly scheduled movies, prices are as follows:

Box Office Hours
Our box office for movie tickets opens approximately 10 minutes before the first show of the day and closes approximately 10 minutes after the last movie of the day has begun.
We accept cash, Visa, or Mastercard for movie tickets, event and concert tickets.
Concessions
Our concession stand serves fresh popcorn (popped every day) and Pepsi-Cola products. Our popcorn is popped in canola oil and we feature real butter for a topping.
Our concessions also features Richardson’s Dairy-Fresh Ice Cream in cone or cup, with generous portions and free jimmies and sprinkles. We also serve the best frappe in town – loaded thick with ice cream!
We serve wine and beer for our patrons 21 years and older. You must have a valid Massachusetts I.D. or U.S. Passport in order to purchase beer or wine. Patrons may purchase only one beverage per person at a time and obey all rules of the house — please enjoy responsibly. As always, we encourage all guests to utilize public transportation.
Gift Cards
We offer Gift Cards, for sale and use at either of our locations. Choose any denomination between $10.00 and $100.00 – cards can be used for MOVIE tickets or concession items! Gift Cards are available at the box office. We take cash, MasterCard, or Visa.
About Our Theatres: Technical Information
Somerville Theatre has 5 auditoriums. All are fully accessible via elevator. All have hearing assistive devices available.
Theater 1 (the main theater) is our original 1914 auditorium with 900 seats split between the orchestra and a balcony (which for seating purposes we divide into lower and upper balcony). Click to download a PDF of our seating chart.
Our screen is approximately 28′X16′ when open for 1:85 aspect ratio films, and approximately 30′X14′ for CinemaScope images. Other formats are easy to present with our movable masking. Our modern sound system features JBL speakers and Dolby Digital Sound, with 24 seperate surround speakers spread throughout the auditorium and two subwoofers. Our projection booth contains two Philips Norelco DP-70 projectors capable of 35mm and 70mm film projection.
The main theater was renovated in 2006 to feature a historically accurate paint scheme and brand new stage, screen and fire safety systems.
Our orchestra seats are modern and comfortable, featuring 34″ of leg room. The seats in our balcony were newly installed in August of 2009, with 31″ of leg room. Leg room is better in the Orchestra, so taller patrons may prefer the downstairs seating (though if you do like sitting upstairs and are tall, we suggest Rows HH, LL, or KK which have more leg room).
Our 4 other cinemas were built in 1996-97 and are modern and stylish, featuring our signature owl light sconces.
Cinema 2 is located in the basement and seats 120 people. The screen size is approximately 18′ x 10′.
Cinema 3 is also located in the basement and seats 180 people. This auditorium features Dolby Surround Stereo and the screen size is approximately 25′ x 13′.
Cinema 4 is located on the second floor and seats 110 people. The screen size is approximately 18′ x 10′.
Cinema 5 is located on the second floor and seats 180 people. This auditorium features Dolby Surround Stereo and the screen size is approximately 25′ x 13′.
Our 35mm film projectors are serviced regularly by Boston Light & Sound to ensure the best presentation possible with our equipment. Our projectionists are licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and are members of the I.A.T.S.E. Local 182. With over 120 years of collective experience, our booth staff is far superior to that of our chain competitors.
